RSS KO
JAANNA HAI?
Before forming an opinion, understand.
Founded in 1925, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is one of the world's largest voluntary civil society movements, dedicated to character building, social cohesion, and grassroots community service.
Character Building & Discipline
Founded on Vijayadashami in 1925 by Dr. K.B. Hedgewar in Nagpur, the movement started with a simple vision: lasting civilizational strength comes not from political power, but from morally grounded, disciplined citizens who place nation and society above personal interest.
- Voluntary non-political civil society organization
- Physical fitness, mental focus, and moral grounding
The Daily Shakha
The fundamental unit of RSS is the daily 1-hour Shakha conducted in open neighborhood grounds. It combines traditional Indian sports, martial coordination, group singing, and intellectual discussions on civic duties.
- Zero membership fees, open to all citizens
- Breaks caste and economic barriers in daily life
150,000+ Service Projects
Inspired Swayamsevaks lead massive non-profit institutions in education (Vidya Bharati, Ekal Vidyalaya), tribal healthcare (Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram), and emergency disaster response across India.
- Immediate first-response during earthquakes, floods, and pandemics
- Extensive vocational training and grassroots self-reliance
Nation First (राष्ट्राय स्वाहा)
For today's digital generation, understanding RSS means looking past second-hand biases and seeing actual ground realities: selfless volunteerism, environmental stewardship, and building an inclusive, forward-looking Bharat.
- Active youth participation in innovation, startup mentoring, and social impact
- Inviting constructive dialogue, critique, and participation
MILESTONES OF SERVICE
A continuum of grassroots discipline, humanitarian disaster response, and civic solidarity from 1925 to Present.
Foundation & Vision
Founded on Vijayadashami in Nagpur by Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar with the vision of character-building, societal discipline, and uniting citizens above distinctions.
Partition Relief & National Support
Mobilized extensive volunteer networks to operate refugee relief camps, provide food, medical aid, and shelter to millions displaced during Partition.
Civil Defense During War
Volunteers actively supported civil defense, maintained internal supply lines, and assisted law enforcement during the Indo-China war at national request.
National Defense & Refugee Relief
Assisted border logistics, organized massive blood donation drives, and managed humanitarian camps for displaced refugees during the Bangladesh Liberation War.
Defense of Democratic Freedoms
Played an integral role in the underground movement for the restoration of fundamental rights and democratic liberties during the 21-month Emergency period.
Gujarat Earthquake Disaster Relief
First responders on the ground in Kutch and Ahmedabad within hours of the devastating 7.7 earthquake, conducting rescue, debris clearance, and long-term rehabilitation.
Contemporary Grassroots Nation Building
A nationwide fabric of over 150,000+ service projects run by affiliated trusts in education (Vidya Bharati, Ekal Vidyalaya), healthcare, tribal empowerment (Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram), and environmental conservation.
WHAT IS A
SWAYAMSEVAK?
Swayam-Sevak translates to self-motivated volunteer. It is not an official designation—it is a conscious personal pledge to serve society.
Selfless Volunteerism (सेवा)
Dedicated personal time, energy, and domain skills to community without expecting personal fame, financial return, or political office.
Daily Self-Discipline (संयम)
Cultivating physical stamina, mental clarity, punctuality, and moral integrity as an everyday lifestyle.
Social Harmony (समरसता)
Eliminating social divides of caste, region, and class in daily conduct to treat every citizen with equal dignity and brotherhood.
Nation Before Self (राष्ट्र प्रथम)
Aligning individual career ambitions with the collective self-reliance, security, and honor of Bharat.
“Work silently. Build character. Serve unconditionally.”
स्वयंसेवकों का जीवन केवल चर्चाओं के लिए नहीं, अपितु समाज को संगठित और समर्थ बनाने के लिए है।
